An activity is a set of questions or exercises that we call tasks. Activities, therefore, have certain configurations that define a series of factors that are important for the functioning of the study. Learn more about what an activity is.
To add a new activity to a study, you need to have a Moderator or Administrator account. In the Activities menu you will find the Create Activity button and from there you can fill in the settings.
Visual identity of the activity
On the creation page, give your activity a name and add a cover image by clicking on “Click to upload”.
Recommendation: Create different names for each activity. This allows you to use filters and export the community without getting confused.
Datas e agendamento de atividades
Select the time the activity will be available. You must select a start date (when the activity will be available to participants) and an end date (when the activity will no longer be available to participants).
You can change the dates and times of the activity whenever necessary. Just change them and select save.
The dates of an activity perform an important scheduling function. This means that when the activity's start date is reached, the activity will be activated automatically. Likewise, when the end date is reached, the activity will be deactivated and no longer available to participants. It is therefore important to pay attention to the start and end dates, even if the activity is deactivated.
Remember that the dates and times will respect the time zone chosen in the community setup. If you are in a different time zone to the one configured on the platform, make sure you take the time difference into account when scheduling your activities.
Recommendation: It is common for participants to be replaced or added to studies after the start date of the community and activities. You can save time by setting the activity end date to the last day of the community, so that participants who arrive later will be able to access the activities they started before registering in the community, without having to change the activity end date.
Segmentation and access to activities
You can restrict access to an activity to specific groups of participants using Segmentation. You must select at least one of the segments from the list, otherwise the activity will be made available to all participants and the segmentation information will not appear in the database.
The activity will be visible and available to participants who are compatible with any selected segment, i.e. selecting the “women” segment and the “age: 18 to 25” segment means that the activity will be available to any participants who belong to both the “women” segment and the “age: 18 to 25” segment. So women, regardless of age, and people, regardless of gender, will have access to this activity.
If this is not the ideal segmentation for your study, the account administrator can create new segmentations. Learn more about participant segmentation.
Recommendation: If your activity is to be made available to all participants, don't forget to select the All option in the list of segments. This ensures that the segmentation information is present in the study database.
You must also choose how the answers to the activity will be visible to the participants. The first option guarantees that participants will be able to see each other's answers at any time within the community. By selecting the middle option, participants will be able to see each other's answers, but only after completing each answer. The third option ensures that participants have no contact with each other's answers. Learn more about participant access and its functions.
Sequencing the tasks of an activity
Define whether participants have to answer the tasks within the activity in the order in which they are displayed or whether they can choose the order in which they answer them. To sequence or not sequence your activity, simply click on Sequence/Unsequence Tasks.
An activity being sequenced means that participants must answer the tasks in that activity in the order in which they are arranged. Participants will therefore only be able to view the next question after completing the task they are on.
An activity is not sequenced, on the contrary, it allows the participant to navigate between questions using the skip button. Despite being able to navigate between tasks, all of them are compulsory and must be answered in order to obtain the status of complete.
Logic and Conditions
Sequenced activities allow Logic and Conditions to be added to tasks. Logics and conditions make it possible to direct participants to specific questions based on the answers they select in a given task.
In a task that asks participants if they consume soft drinks, those who answer “yes” will be directed to questions about soft drinks and those who answer “no” will be directed to questions about other types of drink or end the activity after that question.
If your quiz needs this functionality, simply enable the Logic and Conditions option.
Chain of activities
Define the dependency of activities using the Chaining function. If you want participants to have access to an activity only after they have completed another activity, simply chain these activities together.
Think of it like a chain. There will always be an activity that must be completed first for the others to become available.
Assuming that the first activity in your community is called “Welcome”, it doesn't need to be linked to any other activity because it is the first in the queue. The second activity, however, which is called “First day”, must have the “Welcome” activity selected in the linking list. In this way, the “First day” activity will only be available to the participant once they have completed the “Welcome” activity.
With the thread function, you can create separate activity flows. If it is necessary for the participant to view an activity only after completing two or more activities, all of them must be selected in the thread list for the activity in question.
